Blackout fabric and a total-blackout system are not the same thing. A standard Roller, Roman or Pleated blind can use a fabric that blocks light through the material, while light can still remain around the edges of the blind.
Our specialist total-blackout product uses a framed screen system around the window opening to control those edge gaps much more effectively. On qualifying configurations using Dark Grey or Black fabric, correctly surveyed and installed, the system can achieve full blackout.

Why Standard Blackout Fabric Is Different
A standard blind can use excellent blackout fabric and still show light at the sides, top or bottom because the fabric is not sealed to the window opening. That is normal for a conventional blind and is not a manufacturing fault.
How the Framed System Works
The specialist system uses a four-sided aluminium frame around the opening to guide and contain the cellular blackout fabric. The fabric moves side to side using a manual handle. The frame controls the edge gaps that remain around a conventional blind.
The window must be surveyed carefully because handles, locks, recess depth and other obstructions affect whether the frame can be fitted correctly.

The fabric is controlled within dedicated side and surrounding frame sections rather than hanging freely.
Recess Only
The system needs a suitable recess and is not presented as an outside-recess or face-fixed product.
Manual Operation
The system is manually operated with a handle, without a hanging chain or cord.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can this system genuinely achieve full blackout?
Yes, on qualifying configurations using Dark Grey or Black fabric when the window is suitable and the system is correctly surveyed and installed. Other colours or configurations may provide strong light reduction without qualifying for full blackout.
Why does a standard blackout blind still let light in?
Blackout fabric can block light through the material, but a normal blind does not seal all four edges of the window. Those edge gaps are why a standard blackout blind can still show light around the perimeter.
Can I choose a light-coloured fabric?
Selected lighter colours are available for strong light reduction, but the qualifying full-blackout configurations use Dark Grey or Black fabric. We will explain the difference before you order.
Can the system be fitted outside the recess?
No. The specialist framed system covered on this page is recess-only and needs a suitable opening with enough clearance around handles and other obstructions.
Is the system motorised?
The currently evidenced total-blackout system on this page is manually operated. We do not advertise a motorised version without product-specific evidence.
Is the system child safe?
The evidenced system has no hanging operating cord or chain. We still assess the complete installation and fitting position during the survey.
