Day and Night Blinds — Light and Privacy, Precisely Controlled
Also known as vision blinds or zebra blinds — day and night blinds combine alternating sheer and opaque fabric stripes to give you effortless, precise control over light and privacy at any time of day. Made to measure, supplied and fitted across Milton Keynes, Bedford and Luton.

Day and night blinds — sometimes called vision blinds or zebra blinds — are one of the most distinctive and versatile window treatments available. By alternating bands of sheer and opaque fabric within a single blind, they give you smooth, continuous control over the balance of light and privacy in any room — from fully open and light-filled through to maximum privacy with significantly reduced light.
Simply turn the chain to align the sheer bands for an open, bright feel, or rotate the fabric to align the opaque bands for privacy and reduced light. The transition between the two is smooth and effortless — and the distinctive striped aesthetic of the blind itself has become a popular design feature in contemporary interiors.
At Blinds Kingdom we supply and fit made to measure day and night blinds across Milton Keynes, Bedford and Luton in a wide range of colours and fabric tones, with cassette fascia options and Perfect Fit® versions for uPVC windows. Every order begins with a free home visit where we bring samples and take accurate measurements.
Why Choose Day and Night Blinds?
Continuous, Effortless Light Control
No other standard blind gives you the same smooth, continuous transition between open and private positions. A simple turn of the chain moves the fabric from fully open to maximum privacy — and every position in between.
A Distinctive Contemporary Look
The alternating stripe pattern of a day and night blind is a design feature in its own right. Whether the blind is in its open or closed position, the fabric has a clean, structured aesthetic that suits contemporary interiors.
A Wide Range of Fabric Tones
Available in an extensive range of tones from soft whites, warm creams and neutral greys through to deeper tones and richer colours — our collection offers considerable choice to complement any interior palette.
Cassette Fascia Options
A choice of cassette fascia systems is available — concealing the roller mechanism above the blind for a neater, more refined appearance. Available in multiple colours with a fabric insert option on selected systems.
Perfect Fit® Option Available
For uPVC windows, our Perfect Fit® day and night blinds clip directly into the existing window beading — no drilling, no screwing and no damage to walls or frames.
How It Works
Three Positions, One Blind
A day and night blind is woven with alternating sheer and opaque bands. Turning the chain shifts the fabric smoothly between these three positions.
Sheer Bands Aligned
The open, sheer sections sit in front of each other, allowing natural light to flood through while still providing a degree of privacy.
Continuously Variable
The sheer and opaque bands can be set at any intermediate position, giving a continuously variable balance between light and privacy.
Opaque Bands Aligned
The solid sections sit in front of each other, significantly reducing light and providing good privacy — the maximum privacy position, but not blackout.

An Important Note — What Day and Night Blinds Actually Do
Many customers assume that because the blind is called a 'day and night' blind, the opaque stripes provide blackout at night. This is incorrect.
Day and night blinds are not a blackout product. When the opaque stripes are aligned, the blind significantly reduces the amount of light entering the room — but it does not block it out completely. Light will still enter around the edges of the blind and through the fabric itself.
Day and night blinds are an excellent product for light control and privacy — but they are a light-filtering and privacy product, not a blackout solution.
Cassette and Fascia Options
A cassette fascia conceals the roller tube and mechanism above the blind fabric for a neater, more finished appearance. We offer two cassette sizes.
40mm Open Fascia — a slim, neat profile that conceals the roller tube from the front while remaining open at the back.
70mm Closed Fascia — a wider, more substantial fascia profile giving a more architectural finish above the blind.
Fascia colours — White, anthracite and black — each available with or without a fabric insert in the same fabric as the blind.

Perfect Fit® Day and Night Blinds
Our Perfect Fit® day and night blinds use the same clip-in system as our other Perfect Fit® products — fitting directly into the beading of your existing uPVC window frame with no drilling, no screwing and no damage.
Frame colours: White, Anthracite, Mahogany, Black. Chain operation only. Sizes based on glass size measurement.
Perfect Fit® day and night blinds require a uPVC window frame with a minimum bead depth of 18mm. Max drop varies depending on fabric selected.
Ideal Rooms for Day and Night Blinds
Living Rooms — The smooth transition between open and private positions suits a room that is used throughout the day and evening.
Bedrooms — A popular bedroom choice for customers who want privacy without complete darkness. Not a blackout product.
Kitchens and Dining Rooms — The clean, structured look suits these rooms well — giving precise light control without the visual weight of curtains.
Home Offices — The ability to precisely control glare and light levels makes day and night blinds a practical home office solution.
Conservatories — Available in Perfect Fit® for uPVC conservatory windows — a neat, no-drill solution.
Child Safety
All day and night blind installations comply with UK child safety legislation. Chain lengths are calculated to prevent hazardous loops from forming and a chain tidy device is fitted as standard on all installations.
Child safety devices are a legal requirement — not an option. If a customer declines to allow the fitting of the required child safety devices, we are unable to install the blind.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are day and night blinds blackout?
No — this is one of the most common misconceptions about this product. When the opaque stripes are aligned, day and night blinds significantly reduce light but do not block it out completely. If complete blackout is what you need, please see our dedicated Blackout Blinds page.
What is the difference between day and night blinds, vision blinds and zebra blinds?
They are all the same product — alternating sheer and opaque fabric stripes on a roller mechanism. Different suppliers and retailers use different names. We call them day and night blinds as this is the most widely understood term.
Can day and night blinds be motorised?
Yes — motorised operation is available on standard fascia systems. Motorised operation is not available on Perfect Fit® day and night blinds.
What is a Perfect Fit® day and night blind?
A Perfect Fit® day and night blind clips directly into your existing uPVC window beading — no drilling, no screwing and no damage to walls or frames. Available in chain operation only with a maximum width of 1500mm.
How do I clean a day and night blind?
Spot clean only with a damp cloth. Do not immerse in water or machine wash as this will damage the fabric and mechanism. For everyday dust, a soft brush or vacuum with a soft attachment is sufficient.
What is the lead time for day and night blinds?
Our day and night blinds are made to measure with a typical lead time of 5–6 weeks from confirmed order.
