Terms and Conditions

Solara Shades UK Limited, trading as Blinds Kingdom. Last updated June 2026.

These Terms and Conditions govern the supply and installation of made to measure window blinds, shutters and curtains by Solara Shades UK Limited, a company registered in England and Wales, trading as Blinds Kingdom. By placing an order with us you agree to be bound by these terms in full.

Our registered address is available upon request. For all enquiries please contact us via the details provided on our website at blindskingdom.co.uk.

1. Our Products and Bespoke Status

All window blinds, shutters and curtains supplied by Blinds Kingdom are entirely custom-made and bespoke items manufactured specifically to your individual window measurements and chosen specifications. Under the UK Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, custom-made and personalised products are exempt from the standard 14-day statutory cancellation rights that apply to off-the-shelf goods. Once manufacturing has commenced, your order cannot be cancelled or returned under these statutory rights.

2. Surveys, Orders and the 24-Hour Amendment Window

2.1 Survey Process

A 50% deposit is required at the point of sale to secure your order and initiate your technical survey. Your survey and initial consultation may be carried out by the same representative in a single visit, or separately by different members of our team depending on operational requirements.

2.2 The 24-Hour Amendment Window

A 24-hour period begins immediately upon completion of your technical survey. During this time you may request amendments to your order including size changes, colour changes or cancellation. Once this 24-hour period has passed, raw materials are purchased and manufacturing begins. At this point your deposit becomes non-refundable and no further amendments or cancellations can be accepted.

2.3 Survey Documentation and Binding Approval

At the end of your survey visit you will be presented with a written survey summary sheet detailing the agreed product specifications, configurations, technical considerations and fitting constraints discussed during the visit. By signing this document you confirm that you have read, understood and agreed to all specifications and technical details recorded, and that you authorise us to proceed with manufacture on this basis. This signed document constitutes a binding instruction to manufacture and supersedes any prior verbal or informal discussions.

Please note that Solara Shades UK Limited is in the process of developing a dedicated digital survey application. Once launched, paper survey documentation will be replaced by a digital equivalent with electronic signature capture. Until that time the signed paper survey summary sheet is the binding record of your order.

3. Payment Terms

3.1 Deposit

A non-refundable deposit of 50% of the total order value is required at the point of sale to confirm your order and initiate your survey.

3.2 Balance Payment

The remaining 50% balance is due when your goods are ready for delivery and installation. We will contact you to arrange payment via our secure digital payment link before confirming your installation date. At our sole discretion, for certain order types, we may permit the balance to be collected upon completion of installation.

3.3 Overdue Balances

If your balance remains unpaid beyond the agreed due date, interest will accrue at a rate of 4% per annum above the Bank of England base rate, calculated daily from the due date until payment is received in full. If payment remains outstanding for more than 14 days, the account will be referred to a third-party debt collection agency. You will be liable for all reasonable costs incurred in recovering the outstanding balance including legal fees and collection charges.

4. Property Preparation and Customer Responsibilities

4.1 Clearance Before Survey and Installation

You are responsible for ensuring clear access to all windows prior to both the survey visit and the installation appointment. This includes clearing window sills and moving furniture, breakables and fragile items away from the window area.

4.2 Removal of Existing Window Treatments

You are solely responsible for removing, dismantling and disposing of any existing blinds, curtains, tracks, poles or brackets before our installer arrives. We do not provide a removal or disposal service for existing window treatments.

4.3 Building and Structural Works

All building works, plastering, tiling, window replacement or any other structural alterations to the window area must be fully completed before your survey takes place. Once your surveyor has recorded measurements, no changes may be made to the window openings or surrounding area. If you alter the window area after the survey, causing our made-to-measure products to no longer fit correctly, you will be solely responsible for the cost of any remedial work or replacement products required.

5. Structural Realities and Fitting Finishes

5.1 Windows Are Not Square

You acknowledge that window openings, brick recesses and window frames in UK properties are rarely perfectly level, plumb or square. To achieve a visually balanced installation our fitters may use structural trim profiles, packing shims or standard white decorator's caulk to fill gaps around the installation.

5.2 Caulk

Where caulk is used it is applied as a flexible sealant only. When dry it provides a matte white base finish and is not a colour-matched surface. If you wish the caulk to match your wall or window frame colour it is your responsibility to paint over it after installation.

5.3 Trim Profiles

Where gaps are too large to be sealed with caulk a structural trim profile will be used to finish the perimeter of the installation.

5.4 Gap Between Frame and Window

Our surveyor will measure from the existing window frame and leave a clearance of approximately 30mm to 60mm to allow for window handles, locks and keys to operate freely. Because walls and recesses are not perfectly even on all sides, the visible gap between the installation frame and the surrounding wall may appear slightly different on each side. This is a normal result of the natural variation in UK building construction and is not a fitting error.

6. Obstructions and Alterations

6.1 Fixtures and Fittings

If existing fixtures such as window handles, taps, electrical sockets, alarm sensors or telephone points obstruct the fitting or operation of your blinds or shutters, our surveyor will discuss the available solutions with you during the survey visit. You agree to the adjusted configurations or fitting positions proposed by our surveyor to accommodate these obstructions. If any utility wiring, plumbing or alarm components need to be relocated, you must arrange this with a qualified third party before your installation date.

6.2 Decorative Woodwork and Tiling

Where dado rails, picture rails, coving, skirting boards or partial tiling prevent a flush installation, our fitter may need to modify or cut these features. Any such alterations will be discussed and agreed with you at the survey stage before any order is placed.

7. Shutter-Specific Terms

7.1 Light Bleed

Window shutters are designed for privacy, light control and aesthetic enhancement. They are not a total blackout product. Some light will enter through the gaps between louvres and the frame, around panel joints and at the perimeter of the installation when louvres are closed. This is an inherent characteristic of all shutters and is not a defect.

7.2 Bi-Fold and Tri-Fold Panel Behaviour

Wide bi-fold and tri-fold shutter panels may dip slightly when opened due to their width and weight. This is normal behaviour and is not a defect. To close the panels you may need to gently lift them back into position. Where panel dipping is a concern your surveyor will discuss T-post options during the survey visit.

7.3 Bay Window Frame Joints

On bay window installations the shutter frame joints at each meeting point follow the actual angle of the window. The frame joint may not align exactly with the mitre cut of the window sill. This is because the installation follows the window angle rather than the sill geometry and is not a fitting error.

8. Blind-Specific Terms

8.1 Blackout Fabrics

Blinds with blackout fabric significantly reduce light but do not deliver complete blackout. Light will still enter around the edges of the blind where it meets the window frame or recess. Our total blackout blind system uses a purpose-designed framed screen. On qualifying configurations using dark grey or black fabric, correctly surveyed and installed, this system can achieve full blackout; other fabric colours and configurations provide strong light reduction but should not be treated as guaranteed full blackout.

8.2 Fabric Width

The fabric on a roller blind is approximately 3.5cm narrower than the overall blind width due to the operating mechanism and brackets on each side. This is standard across all roller blind systems and manufacturers.

8.3 Cassette and Fascia Systems

A cassette or fascia profile conceals the roller mechanism above the blind fabric. It is not a side channel system and does not seal the edges of the blind. Light will still enter around the sides and bottom of the blind even when a cassette is fitted.

8.4 Day and Night Blinds

Day and night blinds (also known as vision or zebra blinds) are a light control and privacy product. They are not a blackout product. The opaque fabric stripes significantly reduce light when aligned but do not block it completely.

9. Soft Furnishings and Curtain-Specific Terms

9.1 Manufacturing Tolerances

The manufacturing tolerance for the drop length of bespoke curtains is plus or minus 1cm. A standard drop deduction of approximately 1.5cm is applied to prevent curtains from dragging on the floor.

9.2 Fabric Movement

Curtain fabrics are natural and porous materials. After installation curtains may stretch, relax or shift slightly due to changes in room temperature, heating patterns and humidity. This is an inherent characteristic of textile fibres and is not a product defect.

9.3 Pattern Matching

The industry standard tolerance for vertical pattern alignment across repeat pattern fabrics is 3% (approximately 3cm per linear metre). For curtain widths exceeding 137cm, vertical fabric joins are required. While we aim for the best possible pattern match across joins, an exact match cannot be guaranteed.

9.4 Fabric Dressing

Upon installation our fitter will pleat, dress and tie your curtains. You must leave the curtains tied and undisturbed for a minimum of 72 hours — ideally up to 7 days — to allow the fabric to settle and develop its fold memory.

9.5 Cleaning

Curtains should be vacuumed regularly using a soft upholstery attachment. Professional dry cleaning in accordance with the fabric care label is the only approved cleaning method. We accept no liability for damage resulting from machine washing or tumble drying.

9.6 Existing Hardware

Where you request that new blinds or curtains are hung on existing tracks, rails or poles, we accept no liability for the load-bearing capacity or performance of that existing hardware.

10. Child Safety Compliance

10.1 Legal Requirement

All window blind installations carried out by Blinds Kingdom comply with BS EN 13120 — the UK standard for internal blinds — and the British Blind and Shutter Association (BBSA) Make it Safe guidelines. The fitting of child safety devices is a legal requirement and applies to all properties regardless of whether children live in or visit the property.

10.2 Safety Device Specifications

Wall-mounted safety cleats are fixed at a minimum height of 150cm from the floor. Breakaway chain connectors are positioned at a minimum height of 60cm from the floor. Control chain lengths are restricted in accordance with BBSA guidelines based on the blind drop and installation height provided.

10.3 Refusal of Safety Devices

If you refuse to allow the fitting of required child safety devices our installer will not complete the installation. The blind will be left uninstalled. You will be required to sign a Safety Refusal Form confirming that you have declined the fitting of child safety devices and that you accept full responsibility for the consequences of this decision. You remain liable for the full outstanding balance of your order. No refund or cancellation will be permitted in these circumstances.

11. Delays and Liability

11.1 Manufacturing and Delivery Delays

We use trusted external manufacturing partners. We are not liable for delays caused by manufacturing backlogs, raw material shortages, supplier lead time variations, transit issues or customs delays. Such delays do not entitle you to cancel your order, receive a price reduction or claim financial compensation.

11.2 Pre-Existing Structural Defects

We accept no liability for damage caused during installation that results from pre-existing structural weaknesses including blown or fragile plaster, crumbling brickwork, hollow lintels, structural damp or decay. The cost of repairing any such pre-existing defects is your responsibility.

12. Missed Appointments

If our surveyor or installer attends a pre-arranged appointment and is unable to gain access to your property within 15 minutes of the agreed time, the visit will be recorded as a failed appointment due to customer absence. We reserve the right to charge an aborted visit fee of £50 before rescheduling. This fee covers travel costs, wasted labour time and administrative rescheduling.

13. Dispute Resolution and Governing Law

13.1 Complaints

If you are dissatisfied with any aspect of our service please contact us in the first instance so we can attempt to resolve the matter directly.

13.2 Alternative Dispute Resolution

If we are unable to resolve a complaint internally, either party may refer the matter to the BBSA Mediation Service. You may also seek consumer guidance through Citizens Advice on 0808 223 1133 or via the Trading Standards service.

13.3 Governing Law

These Terms and Conditions are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes arising under or in connection with these terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.

13.4 Scope of Service

Our survey, supply and installation services are provided to UK residential and commercial customers only.
