Why Shutters?

Why Choose Shutters?

Shutters give you flexible control over light and privacy, and a clean, fitted appearance at the window.

Flexible Light Control

Tilt the louvres to adjust daylight, glare and privacy throughout the day.

Adjustable Privacy

Louvre angles can help limit views into the room while still allowing daylight through, depending on the window and viewing angle.

Architectural Window Finish

Made-to-measure shutters sit closely around the window to create a clean, fitted appearance.

Additional Layer at the Window

Independent BBSA-commissioned research has shown that shutters can reduce heat loss through windows when correctly fitted and closed. See the dedicated energy section below for the detailed figures.

Straightforward Maintenance

Most shutter surfaces can be dusted or wiped clean using the care method appropriate to the selected material.

Choice of Materials & Configurations

Choose from several shutter materials, colours, louvre sizes and styles, with suitability depending on the window and selected range.

Tier on Tier Shutters

How Tier on Tier Shutters Work

Tier on Tier shutters use two separate panel sets — an upper set and a lower set — each independently hinged, rather than a single panel with a horizontal mid-rail (Split Tilt). Each tier can be opened or tilted on its own for flexible control at different heights of the window.

Each tier is a separate panel set and can be opened independently of the other.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do people choose shutters?

Shutters give you flexible control over light and privacy, sit closely around the window for a clean, fitted appearance, and are available across a range of materials, colours and configurations to suit different homes. Most surfaces are straightforward to keep clean, and every shutter is made to measure for your exact windows.

How long do shutters last?

Shutter lifespan depends on material, environment, use and care. Manufacturer warranties vary by range, and the applicable warranty is confirmed with the selected product.

Are shutters suitable for bathrooms and kitchens?

The correct material matters in moisture-prone rooms. Faux Wood, PVC and Composite ranges include options suited to kitchens and bathrooms, while natural Wooden shutters are generally better kept away from persistently humid conditions. We confirm suitability during the home visit.

Can shutters help reduce heat loss?

Independent research commissioned by the British Blind and Shutter Association and conducted by the University of Salford found that internal shutters can reduce heat loss through windows. See the dedicated energy section above for the study figure and context.

Are shutters child safe?

Shutters are operated without the looped cords or chains associated with some blind systems, making them a useful Safe by Design window-covering option for family homes.

Do shutters block out light completely?

Standard shutters are not Total Blackout products. Blackout Shutters use an integrated cellular blockout blind for enhanced darkness, but some residual light may remain.

How long does installation take?

Installation time depends on the number, size and complexity of the shutters. We confirm what to expect when arranging the fitting appointment.

How long is the lead time for shutters?

Lead time depends on the shutter material and configuration. Selected systems such as PVC and Perfect Fit can be available from around 3–5 weeks, while many made-to-measure shutter ranges are typically around 10–14 weeks. Aluminium is typically around 12–14 weeks. Your expected timing is confirmed before ordering.

How are shutters cleaned?

Most shutter surfaces can be dusted or wiped clean with a soft cloth, and the soft brush attachment on a vacuum is useful for everyday dust. The right cleaning approach depends on the selected material and finish, which we can advise on during your home visit.
