Solid Panel Shutters — Traditional Character, Clean Architectural Lines
Solid Panel Shutters replace the usual field of adjustable louvres with solid shutter sections. Selected ranges offer Solid Panel, Combination and Shaker designs — the right configuration is confirmed during survey.
Not every shutter needs a full field of adjustable louvres. Solid Panel Shutters replace the usual louvre field with solid shutter sections, creating a look that can be more traditional or more minimal depending on the panel design you choose.
Current verified panel designs are Solid Panel, Combination and Shaker. Availability depends on the material, dimensions and configuration selected — confirmed during survey rather than assumed in advance.
At Blinds Kingdom we supply and fit solid panel shutters across Milton Keynes, Bedford and Luton. Every installation begins with a free home visit where we bring samples, take accurate measurements and help you choose the right design and finish for your windows.
Why Choose Solid Panel Shutters?
A Distinctive Solid-Panel Appearance
Without a continuous field of adjustable louvres, solid panel shutters have a bold, architectural quality that reads quite differently to a standard louvred shutter.
Strong Privacy When Closed
The solid section of the panel prevents a direct view through that part of the window when closed.
Different Design Characters
The Solid Panel design suits more traditional interiors, while the Shaker design suits cleaner, more contemporary spaces — the right choice depends on your room.
A Combination Option
Selected systems support a solid lower section with adjustable louvres above, combining solidity below with daylight control above.
Several Window Configurations
Full Height, Café Style and Tier on Tier configurations are confirmed on selected ranges, subject to survey.
Configurations
Solid Panel, Combination or Shaker?
Three panel designs are currently confirmed on selected ranges. Availability depends on the material and range selected — confirmed during survey.

Solid Panel
A traditional profiled solid panel with no adjustable louvre field through the main panel area.

Combination
A solid lower section with adjustable louvres above, combining solidity below with adjustable daylight control above.

Shaker
A flatter, simpler panel design with cleaner, straight lines.
How it works
Available Configurations
Solid-panel designs are confirmed across three window configurations on selected ranges. Exact availability depends on the range and dimensions selected — confirmed during survey. Full Height, Café Style and Tier on Tier shutters each have their own dedicated page with more detail.
Full Height
Solid-panel shutters cover the full window opening.
Café Style
Solid panels cover the lower part of the window while the upper glass remains uncovered.
Tier on Tier
Separate upper and lower tiers allow the two sections to open independently.
The exact panel design and configuration depend on the selected range and dimensions, confirmed during survey.
Materials for Solid Panel Shutters
Solid-panel capability depends on the selected shutter material and range. Your surveyor will confirm what your chosen material can achieve.
Wooden→
Real Paulownia wood is the primary verified material for Solid Panel Shutters, supporting Solid Panel, Combination and Shaker designs in painted and stained finishes.
Composite→
Selected Composite ranges can also be specified with solid-panel configurations, subject to the required design and dimensions — confirmed during survey.
Solid Panels in a Room Setting

Solid Panel Shutters create a very different appearance from conventional louvred shutters. With the panels closed they form a strong architectural feature; when opened, the window is exposed in the same way as other hinged shutter panels.
Colours and Finishes
Wooden Solid Panel Shutters are available in a broad choice of painted finishes — including whites, creams, greys, charcoals and darker tones, with 13 painted colours available in total on selected wooden ranges — plus natural wood stains ranging from pale airy tones through to rich deep tones, with 12 natural wood tones available on selected wooden ranges. Each stained panel is unique because every piece of real wood is unique. Selected wooden ranges also support custom-colour matching against Farrow & Ball, Dulux and Little Greene, subject to a surcharge — your surveyor will advise during your home visit.
Light and Privacy
When a solid panel is closed, direct light does not pass through the centre of the panel itself, and visual privacy through that section is strong.
To expose the window, the whole panel needs to be opened — there is no louvre adjustment within a fully solid section. On Combination designs, the upper louvres can be tilted for adjustable daylight and privacy while the lower section stays solid.
How it works
Solid Panel, Louvred or Combination?
The right choice depends on your room and what matters most to you.
Solid Panel
May suit rooms where a solid architectural appearance and strong closed-panel privacy are priorities.
Louvred
Often chosen where adjustable daylight and privacy throughout the day are priorities.
Combination
Useful where a solid lower section is preferred but adjustable louvres are still wanted above.
What We Check During Survey
Your surveyor measures the width and height of each opening, checks the frame position and recess depth, and notes any handles or obstructions nearby.
Because solid panels can look visually heavier than louvred panels, panel proportions and divisions matter — your surveyor will confirm the panel design, configuration and clearance needed for the panels to open, along with how they will interact with any surrounding furniture or joinery.
Your chosen Solid Panel, Combination or Shaker design, Full Height, Café Style or Tier on Tier configuration, colour, finish and material suitability are all confirmed before any order is placed.
Blackout Expectations
Solid Panel Shutters are not a total-blackout product. The solid section blocks direct light through the panel itself, but light can still remain around the shutter construction — including around frames, hinged edges, between adjoining panels and at other junctions. The amount varies with the configuration and window.
If greater darkness is a priority for a room, ask your surveyor about our dedicated Blackout Shutters.
