Roman Blinds — Timeless Elegance at Every Window
An elegant, tailored blind style. Made to measure roman blinds in an extensive fabric range with multiple lining options — including motorised systems. Supplied and fitted across Milton Keynes, Bedford and Luton.
There is something uniquely beautiful about a roman blind. Where roller blinds retract into a roll and vertical blinds draw to the side, a roman blind folds up into clean, horizontal pleats — creating a structured, tailored look that brings warmth, texture and a sense of considered luxury to any window.
Roman blinds are the natural choice for customers who want the softness of fabric at their windows without the volume of curtains. They sit flat against the window when lowered, letting the fabric and pattern speak for themselves, and fold elegantly upward when raised.
Available in an extensive range of fabrics spanning plains, textures, designs and prints — with a choice of lining options from a simple unlined finish through to premium blockout bonded linings — our roman blinds can be tailored to every room, every style and every level of light control requirement.
At Blinds Kingdom we supply and fit made to measure roman blinds across Milton Keynes, Bedford and Luton. Every blind is made to the exact measurements of your window and every order begins with a free home visit where we bring samples and take accurate measurements.
Why Choose Roman Blinds?
Two Styles — Cascade and Stacked
Cascade folds in a flowing, overlapping waterfall effect for a soft, luxurious appearance. Stacked folds neatly and compactly behind itself for a crisper, more tailored look. Your surveyor will show you both styles during your home visit.
An Extensive Fabric Range
Plains, textures, embroidered designs, florals, geometrics, prints and stripes — our fabric collection spans an extensive range of options. Whether your interior is classic or contemporary, there is a fabric to complement it perfectly.
Six Lining Options
From unlined through to premium blockout bonded lining — choose the level of light control, insulation and luxury that suits each room. Satin lining is our default recommendation for most installations.
Motorised Option
Our motorised roman blinds use battery-powered Somfy motors — no wiring required. Raise and lower fully at the touch of a button, with remote-control operation; exact automation compatibility depends on the selected motor system.
Multiple Headrail Options
Standard concealed, breakaway, no-drill and cassette headrail systems to suit every window type and customer preference.

Our Fabric Range
Plain and Textured Fabrics — From soft neutrals and warm whites through to rich tones and deep statement colours. Textured weaves add depth and interest to plain colourways.
Design and Pattern Fabrics — Florals, botanicals, geometric patterns, abstract prints and stripes — each fabric is designed to make a visual statement while remaining practical.
Voile and Sheer Fabrics — For a light, airy feel with soft light diffusion. Available unlined only.
Recycled and Sustainable Fabrics — A selection of recycled and sustainably sourced fabrics delivering beautiful results with a reduced environmental footprint.
For a layered, coordinated look, roman blinds are often paired with curtains in a complementary or matching fabric. Your surveyor can help you choose fabrics that work well together during your home visit.
Lining Options
Unlined — Face fabric only. Best for voile and sheer fabrics or decorative use.
Premier Lining — Lightweight lining in white or ivory. Adds privacy and light reduction.
Satin Lining (Default) — Premium quality satin lining. Improves light control and helps the blind hang beautifully. Our default recommendation for most installations.
Blockout Lining — Heavyweight lining that prevents light passing through the face fabric. Also acts as an insulating layer. Some light may still enter around the edges of the blind.
Bonded Lining — Premium lining with a padded appearance adding luxury, weight and added insulation. Roman blinds only.
Blockout Bonded Lining — Combines a padded appearance with a blockout lining that prevents light passing through the face fabric, and adds insulation. Some light may still enter around the edges of the blind. The premium choice for bedrooms. Roman blinds only.
Light Gaps — What to Expect
Roman blinds are not a total-blackout system. Blockout and blockout bonded linings prevent light passing through the face fabric itself, but some light can still remain around the perimeter of the blind — at the sides, top and bottom, where it meets the window recess or wall.
Inside the Recess — Where the window recess is suitable, roman blinds are normally fitted inside the recess for a clean, integrated finish. Some light will enter at the sides and bottom where the blind does not reach the recess walls.
Outside the Recess (Face Fix) — Outside-recess fitting may sometimes increase the overlap over the window opening, but fitting position is circumstance-led — depending on recess depth, obstructions, the absence of a suitable recess, system requirements, or a client wanting the full sill available — rather than a guaranteed way to improve light exclusion. It should not be presented as a blackout solution.
If genuine total blackout is what you need, please see our dedicated Blackout Blinds page.
Headrail Options
Standard Concealed Headrail — Lightweight, discreet, hidden behind the face fabric. Suitable for most window types.
Breakaway Headrail — Concealed headrail with breakaway chain mechanism for enhanced child safety.
No Drill Headrail — Spring-loaded system using anti-slip silicone pads. No screws or drilling required. Max weight 10kg.
Cassette headrail — Powder-coated aluminium cassette concealing the entire mechanism. Available in fabric covered, silver, white and anthracite.
Motorised Roman Blinds
Our motorised roman blinds use battery-powered Somfy motors — no wiring or electrician required. Motorised Roman blinds are available with remote-control operation; exact control and automation compatibility depends on the selected motor system. All motors carry a 5-year warranty based on 5,000 operating cycles.
Available on concealed headrail and cassette systems, from 550mm wide depending on the motor and system selected.
Pattern Matching
For patterned fabrics, we offer a pattern matching service — ensuring the pattern starts at the same point on every blind ordered for the same room or bay window. This gives a cohesive, intentional result across multiple windows.
Ideal Rooms for Roman Blinds
Living Rooms — Warmth, texture and character without the volume of curtains.
Bedrooms — Blockout or blockout bonded lining for significant light reduction with a luxurious finish.
Dining Rooms — The structured fold creates an elegant backdrop when raised.
Kitchens — Character and warmth with a practical fabric choice.
Home Offices — Light filtering and dim out lining options soften natural light without eliminating it.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between cascade and stacked roman blinds?
Cascade roman blinds fold in a flowing, overlapping waterfall effect when raised — giving a soft, relaxed look. Stacked roman blinds fold neatly and compactly behind themselves when raised — giving a crisper, more structured appearance.
What lining should I choose for a bedroom?
For bedrooms we recommend blockout lining as a minimum — this prevents light passing through the face fabric. For a more luxurious finish, blockout bonded lining adds a padded appearance alongside the same blockout lining. Some light will still enter around the edges regardless of lining choice — see our Light Gaps section for more detail.
Can roman blinds be motorised?
Yes — we offer motorised roman blinds using Somfy motors. Unlike motorised vertical blinds which only tilt, motorised roman blinds raise and lower fully. They are battery powered — no wiring required — and available with remote-control operation; exact control and automation compatibility depends on the selected motor system.
Are roman blinds suitable for kitchens?
Yes — with the right fabric choice. We recommend a fabric that can be spot cleaned and a practical lining. Your surveyor will advise on the most suitable options during your home visit.
What does dry clean only mean in practice?
Roman blinds should not be washed in a washing machine or hand washed. For everyday dust, a soft brush or vacuum with a soft attachment is sufficient. For marks, spot cleaning with a damp cloth is acceptable on most fabrics — but for a thorough clean the blind should be taken to a dry cleaner.
What is the lead time for roman blinds?
Our roman blinds are made to measure with a typical lead time of 5–8 weeks from confirmed order.
