You may have come across several names for this type of blind — pleated, cellular, honeycomb or hive. They all belong to the same family of window treatment, with the key difference being the fabric construction.
Pleated blinds use a single layer of folded fabric — clean, neat and practical.
Cellular or honeycomb blinds use a double layer of fabric that forms enclosed air pockets within each pleat. These air pockets trap warmth and act as an insulating layer — giving double cell honeycomb blinds improved thermal performance compared with single layer alternatives.

Fabric Options
Light Filtering / Dim Out — Soft, diffused light enters the room through the fabric while maintaining privacy. An excellent choice for living rooms, dining rooms and any room where natural light is valued but direct sunlight needs to be softened.
Blockout — Significantly reduces light entering through the fabric — making blockout pleated blinds a popular choice for bedrooms, nurseries and any room where light control is a priority.
Solar Reflective Fabrics — For conservatories and rooms with large south or west facing glazing — solar reflective fabrics reduce heat build-up from direct sunlight while still allowing natural light into the room.
Moisture Resistant Fabrics — Selected fabrics with moisture resistant properties are available for kitchens, bathrooms and conservatories where humidity levels are higher.

Free Hanging — The standard fitting method. The blind hangs freely within or above the window recess on a slim headrail. Motorised free hanging pleated blinds are available.
Perfect Fit® — Clips directly into the existing beading of your uPVC window frame — no drilling, no screwing and no damage. Requires a minimum bead depth of 18mm.
Tab Fix — Tabs on the blind clip directly to the window frame — a simple, discreet fitting method that works well on many uPVC and aluminium window profiles.
Tensioned — The blind is held under tension between top and bottom fixings — keeping the fabric taut regardless of the window angle. The preferred fitting for angled and sloped windows.
Conservatory Roof Blinds — Made to measure pleated blinds specifically designed for conservatory roof glazing.
Lantern Roof Blinds — Made to measure pleated blind systems designed to fit the glazed panels of lantern roofs. Motorised operation is available on suitable systems.
Gable End Blinds — For the triangular glazed gable ends found in many conservatories and garden rooms. Motorised gable-end systems are available on suitable installations.
Light Control & Light Gaps
Standard pleated and cellular blinds, including blockout fabrics, are not automatically a total-blackout system.
Blockout fabric can prevent light passing through the fabric itself, while some light may still remain at the edges of the blind or around components, depending on the system.
Perfect Fit®, tensioned, roof, lantern and shaped systems each have different frame and edge characteristics, so the exact light exclusion achieved depends on the system selected, the shape of the window and how it is installed.
Where very high light exclusion is required, your surveyor will assess the appropriate specialist blackout system during your home visit.

Do blackout pleated blinds completely block out light?
Blackout pleated fabric significantly reduces light — but on a standard pleated blind some light will still enter around the edges of the blind.
